UPSC ESE Notification 2018– Engineering Services Examination

The Union Public Service Commission or UPSC is a central agency authorised by the government of India for conducting highly prestigious examinations like Combined Defense Services Examination, Indian Forest Service examination, National Defense Academy Examination, Engineering Services Examination, Special Class Railway Apprentice, Combined Medical Services Examination, Civil Services Examination, Indian Economic Services and Naval Academy Examination.

Competitive exams like IIT JEE are taken by students for admissions into various undergraduate courses offered at different IITs and NITs. Similarly, just after completing their graduation, students could appear for highly competitive examinations like UPSC – ESE.

It is a national level civil services examination conducted in three stages by UPSC every year for recruiting various technical graduates from different engineering backgrounds to serve the Union Government of India. Candidates from the following engineering disciplines can apply for UPSC – ESE 2018: Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering. Every year around 2 Lakhs students appear for UPSC – ESE to fill around 500 job vacancies.

UPSC ESE 2018 – Eligibility Criteria:

  • The candidate should be a citizen of India or subject of Bhutan or Nepal. The refugees from Tibet who came to India before January 1st, 1962 are also eligible to appear for the exam.

  • The applicant should possess an Engineering degree from a university recognized by the government of India.

  • The applicant must be within the age group of 21 to 30 years as of August 1st, 2018. For candidates belonging to reserved categories, the Age criteria have been relaxed to certain years which includes:

UPSC ESE 2018 – Application Procedure:

  • Online application forms will be available on the official website – upsconline.nic.in from September 27th, 2017.

  • Fill all the details required in the application form like the Name of the applicant, Age, D.O.B, Educational Qualification, Date of Birth, Phone numbers, etc.

  • After filling the application form the registration fees could be paid online through various online modes of payments. There is no registration fee for female, SC, ST and PH candidates. For General and OBC category candidates the registration fee is 200 Rs.

  • A colored passport sized photograph and signature are to be scanned and uploaded.

  • Select the appropriate examination center and submit the application form. You could download and take its printout for future references.

Selection Process: The candidates qualifying the Main Examination would be called further for a Personal Interview and on the basis of their performance in the Main Exam and personal interview; the final list of the selected candidates would be prepared.
